Isaiah 54:17
17 No weapon formed against you shall prosper, And every tongue which rises against you in judgment You shall condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, And their righteousness is from Me,” Says the Lord.
Chapter 54 of Isaiah is the Covenant of Peace that God promised Israel. God promised a glorious release from not only the exile and captivity, but also from the shame, disgrace, and humiliation. This chapter is a great study that also holds promises for us today. For this study we will be mostly concentrating on verse 17 and how God gave the promise to His servants that no weapon shall prosper and any tongue that rises against us in judgement shall be condemned.
Do you think that God meant that weapons will not ever come against us? NO! As we know from living day to day on this Earth, the enemy will continue until the end of time to strike against all of God’s children to try to cause trials and tribulations. God’s promise was not that weapons would not come, but they would not prosper. God will sometimes remove the weapon before it strikes but sometimes, He will allow the weapon to strike to bring out a greater good then the actual suffering. God does not allow the weapon to prosper but rather transform the sword into a tool to build up His Kingdom.
Is there something in your life that has come against you, but God stepped in; whether to keep it from happening or to use it for a greater blessing? I would think the answer would be YES! Did you receive a blessing either way? Again, I am sure the answer is YES! We should remember this when any other weapons come against us.
WE SHALL PROSPER, NOT THE WEAPONS!
Have you been a victim of an even sharper weapon, the tongue? We tend to see a lot about bullying, mockery and/or deception now more than ever before. However, this has always been a strong weapon that the enemy has used. Even as far back as the Garden of Eden when the serpent appeared to Eve; due to her innocence, she showed no surprise in hearing a strange voice from the snake. The serpent was cunning and sneaky. He used his tongue to trick Eve to believe that God was a liar and that the tree of the knowledge of good and evil was just like the other trees; good for food. The enemy uses the tongue to slander, betray, hurt, violate and corrupt; in order to try to break the character of God’s children. Sometimes it’s easier to take and recover from a physical hit then to recover from the tongue of the enemy or someone the enemy uses to hurt us. But God made a promise in this verse that EVERY tongue which rises against us in judgement, YOU SHALL CONDEMN! At first this seems like we can turn the tables and condemn them for what they have said or done to us. But actually, this is not a way for us to condemn others ourselves but rather a promise from God that on Judgement Day every tongue which rises against you, will be condemned. For now, the best thing we can do, through God, is forgive. No weapons, not even the tongue, will prosper. We have to turn it all over to God and forgive those that do hurt us by the power of the tongue. God will sort that out, it is not up to us, but He gives the promise that He will do so.
God gave this promise of peace and said; this is the heritage of the servants of the Lord. Heritage is not obtained by anything you do, but given to you as a birthright. God gives each of us the opportunity to be born again, through Jesus; and if that is our heritage, we will receive all the promises and blessings of that birthright. Who gave birth to you? Jesus? Are you a servant of the Lord? If yes, then you can trust in the promised protection of our God. Also, the scripture says their righteousness is from ME, which means it does not come from oneself. When we understand that righteousness is from God, we become more comfortable in letting Him protect us.
Isaiah 54:5
For your Maker is your husband, The Lord of hosts is His name; And your Redeemer is the Holy One of Israel; He is called the God of the whole earth.
God reminds us that The Lord of hosts is HIS name; He is the Maker, Redeemer, the HOLY ONE and He is called the God of the whole Earth. God will never forsake us, even when others do, and His promise to meet our needs will not leave us to feel second best.
God intends for us all to prosper, but it is up to us to believe it, receive it and have faith that it will be done!
Amen!
