to free from evil; cleanse; purify
1 Peter 2:24-25
24 who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness—by whose stripes you were healed. 25 For you were like sheep going astray, but have now returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls.
Isaiah 53:5
5 But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed.
The word “healed” can mean either spiritual or physical healing. The verse in 1 Peter 2 is referring to sin and righteousness, not sickness and disease. The verse in Isaiah 53 states that Jesus was wounded for our transgressions and by his stripes we are healed. Therefore, being “healed” in both these verses is speaking of being forgiven and saved by the blood of Jesus. Jesus’ death on the cross brought forth an ending (the old) and by His stripes we can become new. Through a true commitment to Him, we are cleansed and healed spiritually.
Normally we think of this scripture as a physical healing, which is given to us through Jesus as well. But Jesus dying on the cross gives all of us the opportunity for an internal healing. If we confess our sins; putting an end to the old life then accept Jesus as our Savior; by His stripes we are healed and born again to a new life.
Romans 4:25
25 He was delivered over to death for our sins and was raised to life for our justification.
Jesus was wounded and bruised for OUR iniquities and God says we must confess out sins to be healed. This means we accept Jesus as our savior, He takes on all our sin and we are forgiven so that we can then live in His image. Becoming new in Christ brings forth a spiritual healing. God gave His only son and accepted Jesus’ sacrifice for us.
Hosea 14:4
4 “I will heal their backsliding, I will love them freely, For My anger has turned away from him.
This scripture states he will heal our backsliding but we must count ourselves among the backsliders and confess our sins to Jesus. He said I will heal their backsliding. Not “I might heal” or “I could heal” or “I can try to heal,” but I will!
Malachi 4:2
2 But to you who fear My name The Sun of Righteousness shall arise With healing in His wings; And you shall go out And grow fat like stall-fed calves.
Earlier scripture tells that those who dishonor God will be consumed in a furnace of judgment. Those who respect Him will be healed and set free. In this scripture the joy of those who are saved is compared to baby animals being released to play in a pasture. The image is meant to convey absolute delight of sudden freedom. Healing
John 3:16
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
To be saved, you will know true freedom, joy and everlasting life. A true spiritual healing from God.
Proverbs 3:8
8 It will be health to your flesh, And strength to your bones.
It will be health to your flesh: A life of surrender and trust in God gives a greater sense of peace and strength that the one would not have apart from a life through Jesus and salvation.
Flesh referring to the entire body and when surrendered to God, is born again.
Jeremiah 17:14
14 Heal me, O Lord, and I shall be healed; Save me, and I shall be saved, For You are my praise.
The only hope of healing and salvation is through JESUS! Continue to Praise Jesus for His Stripes and our healing!
